OMG This Looks Bad…. I Can’t Wear This! (Style FAIL)

I’m not sure what I was thinking.

Probably something along the lines of, “These look really good on the website. Maybe I should work them into my wardrobe.”

I got them, and guess what?

Complete fail. They just don’t work.

What am I talking about? I’ll start from the beginning.

#1. What Did I Just Buy?

The one type of accessory that I can’t seem to incorporate no matter what I do is bracelets. People have sent me great bracelets that I’ve never worn. I’ve done promotions for Zorrata and talked about their nice-looking bracelets. I see how they can work for other men, but when it comes to myself, something’s missing.

I always thought that the thing that kept bracelets from clicking with my style might be lack of function, so I was excited to see this piece from Tread by Leatherman. It’s a bracelet that includes 29 different tools – screwdrivers, glass breakers, bottle openers, cutting tools, wrenches, all kinds of stuff.

If you haven’t seen one of these before, you might still want to take a look, because it’s a very interesting concept and a lot of guys out there are just loving it. You can combine it with a watch, which I thought would work well for me. I bought 3 of them to try out the different styles.

I was saying to myself, ‘This thing’s gonna be awesome’… and then I got it.

#2. My Style Fail

The first inkling that it wasn’t going to work was when I realized how big it was. But the thing that really broke the deal for me was when I realized that out of all these tools, there was really only one I was looking forward to using on a daily basis – the little cutting tool.

So what did I learn from this failure? Am I giving up on bracelets? The answer is no. I still really love wearing watches – and a watch is a bracelet in a sense, it just happens to have a timepiece on it. I’m planning to keep trying bracelets out, and eventually I’ll find what I’m looking for.

When it comes down to the functionality, the Shard multitool by Gerber is going to serve all my needs, and it’s a fraction of the cost.

I’m not tearing on Leatherman or their products in general – but this specific piece wasn’t worth it to me.

#3. Learning From Failure

That’s what you learn from failure – that one thing doesn’t work for you. That’s why you need to try things. Always look for a good return policy (I will be sending those bracelets back). And don’t be afraid to go out there and experiment.

Don’t give up on a particular accessory if it doesn’t work out the first time or the second time. If you really want to incorporate classic men’s hat styles into your wardrobe, experiment and have fun – but keep going until you find something that really resonates with you.

I have a lot of style experience, but even I try something out and it fails. Here’s a little secret.

If you don’t fail once in a while, you’re not playing the game boldly enough to be truly great at it.
